It does not matter if you have been smoking for a long time or just a little while, it will prove to be very difficult to quit. I have myself tried a number of times and on each occasion I have always started back for one reason or another. I hate that I can’t seem to stop smoking. Sometimes I wish someone would just take the time to come babysit me day after day to make sure I don’t light up. Cigarettes are addictive, and even if you know how bad it is for you, it still takes quite a bit of desire and determination to quit and stay quit. So now I know, cold turkey isn’t for me. I can try something else, just because one method didn’t work for me doesn’t mean that no methods will work.
So knowing that, if you do fail the first time, (or even the second or third), do not be discouraged. This is very common and most people can’t stop on the first try. You absolutely have to be sure that you want to stop before you start trying, and find a method that works for you. Don’t be discouraged and give up on quitting. You will need to make certain lifestyle changes. It will be even harder to quit smoking if you are always around other people that smoke. Go ahead now, before you start to try to quit and figure out what you will do when one of these situations arise.
The more prepared you are, the easier it will be for you to stop. This will not be a task that you handle easily if you don’t prepare and start off the right way. You really can not just jump right in and expect it to work right away. Take the time and know what you will do before you start, and try to start on something that you think will work the best for you.
